Bookseller's Choice (January) Book Club: The Correspondent by Virginia Evans

Our Bookseller's Choice book club is a veritable literary “grab bag” featuring selections from all genres, a sort of charcuterie board of delectable reads selected by our team. Each month, we'll meet at the shop to discuss our read, sharing perspectives and conversation around the book and its themes.

For the month of January, we are reading "The Correspondent" by Virginia Evans.

An epistolary novel about retired lawyer Sybil Van Antwerp, a woman who uses letter writing to navigate life, grief (especially the loss of a child), aging (with failing eyesight), and her relationships, as she confronts a painful past and seeks forgiveness, leading to a profound late-life transformation and self-discovery through her unique voice and correspondences. This is a story about connection, regret, and the wisdom found in letters, praised for its heartfelt exploration of life's mistakes and kindnesses. Hugely popular in reader circles since its debut in April 2025, this book is now a New York Times Bestseller and has been nominated for multiple Goodreads Choice Awards (Fiction, Debut, Audiobook).

THE CORRESPONDENT is in the shop and available for purchase in person NOW.
